The Masters Tournament at Augusta National, is there a better week of the year for golf fans?! The eagerly anticipated first major of the year has arrived and it’s time to review the golf betting markets and hopefully pick out some winners! The golf betting this week should in theory be helped by the fact that it is the only golf major to be played on the same course every year, so studying the course form is imperative and always the starting point. However it’s going to be interesting to see how the event plays out, given the introduction of LIV Golf in 2022. The LIV golfers are playing less competitive golf, so there is a question mark regarding their form and preparation coming into the first golf major of the year. This is clearly reflected in the betting too, with the top of the outright win market being dominated by players from the PGA Tour. Although this is likely to complicate things in terms of trying to predict who will be in contention come Sunday evening, one thing that should be a certainty is the on-going needle between the two sets of players. It should be worth watching just for that!
Given it is the first major of the year, we are upping the ante this week with the golf betting tips. This week we have two sets of tips, as we put our Founder (Ian Lowther), head-to-head against our resident golf betting expert, Darren ‘Big Dal’ Barnard. Ian’s tips can be seen first (leading with Tony Finau), followed by Darren’s (leading with Jason Day). The one common theme is that they both include Tony Finau. Is that a sign?! Good luck to all those getting involved this week!

ParUp Golf’s founder, summarising his golf betting tips this week for the Masters Tournament…
“My top pick this year is Tony Finau. He has a pretty good record at Augusta National (last 5 years – 10th, 5th, 38th, 10th, 35th) and is on a reasonably good run of recent form (last 5 starts – 14th, 20th, 24th, 19th, 17th). He has finished in the top 20 in 9 of his last 10 starts and in the weeks prior to that, he won 3 times in 7 starts, which is ridiculously good. As you can see, the recent form is very consistent for this level. For those who have recently been watching the Netflix “Full Swing” documentary, maybe this consistency isn’t a surprise once you understand his levels of dedication and commitment to the game. Available to back at 22/1 and with some very generous place terms on offer this week, I think Finau offers better value than those at the top of the market and I’m hopeful we’ll get a run for our money come Sunday evening. Come on Tony!!
In contrast to Finau, my next pick isn’t one that jumps out in terms of offering great value, but is one that I think is very likely to contend this week and that is Rory McIlroy. Currently priced at 7/1, McIlroy is joint favourite in the market, alongside Scottie Scheffler. I’m also adding Xander Schauffele (22/1), Dustin Johnson (25/1) and Corey Conners (33/1).”

Tournament form (last 5 starts): DNP – T46 – T10 – T8 – T6.
Going up against those selections is our resident golf betting expert, Darren ‘Big Dal’ Barnard, who is leading with Jason Day as his headline pick at 25/1.
Jason Day:
Each-way (2 points e/w @ 25/1 – 8 places, 1/5 odds).
Current form (last 5 starts): 5 – T9 – T10 – T19 – T5.
Tournament form (last 5 starts): T20 – T5 – MC – MC – DNP.
Reasons to believe – Jason Day:
“I have a feeling that the re-birth of Jason Day has been leading up to this. Approaching the end of last season and early this season, he has looked back to the player he once was (previously number 1 in the world). His form has been good over the last few weeks and his record here in the past has been great. I am hoping he can complete the fairy tale story and finally collect his green jacket on Sunday.” – ParUp Golf’s resident tipster ‘Big Dal’ on why he can win.
Tony Finau:
Each-way (1 point e/w @ 22/1 – 8 places, 1/5 odds).
Current form (last 5 starts): T14 – T20 – T24 – T19 – T17.
Tournament form (last 5 starts): T10 – T5 – T38 – T10 – T35.
Reasons to believe – Tony Finau:
“Finau is another player in great form with x5 top 25 in a row and with x3 top 10 finishes here in the past, he knows how to play his way round Augusta. Stats wise he suits it here, so all being well, he should be there or thereabouts at the weekend.” – ParUp Golf’s resident tipster ‘Big Dal’ on why he can win.
Sungjae Im:
Each-way (1 point e/w @ 33/1 – 8 places, 1/5 odds).
Current form (last 5 starts): T56 – T42 – T21 – T6 – T17.
Tournament form (last 5 starts): DNP – DNP – T2 – MC – T8.
Reasons to believe – Sungjae Im:
“Mr Consistent always plays well, but now he needs to start winning more and with a run of 1st time winners here over the last few years and this being the event he has the best record in, it could perhaps be the time for Im to make the big step up and win a major.” – ParUp Golf’s resident tipster ‘Big Dal’ on why he can win.
Viktor Hovland :
Each-way (1 point e/w @ 35/1 – 8 places, 1/5 odds).
Current form (last 5 starts): T42 – T20 – T10 – T3 – T31.
Tournament form (last 5 starts): DNP – DNP – T32 – T21 – T27.
Reasons to believe – Viktor Hovland :
“All the talent in the world and in good form. He has played here 3 times and made the cut without really making an impact, but stats wise, his game suits it here. If he can scramble well he could put it all together this week and hit the big time, which his talent deserves” – ParUp Golf’s resident tipster ‘Big Dal’ on why he can win.
Big Dal’s, big price outsider – Taylor Moore:
Each-way (1 point e/w @ 125/1 – 8 places, 1/5 odds).
Current form (last 5 starts): T14 – MC – T39 – T35 – 1.
Tournament form (last 5 starts): N/A – Debut in the Masters.
Reasons to believe – Taylor Moore:
“Augusta is course that you need to learn how to play, so taking a bit of a punt on Taylor Moore this week as the big priced outsider. He has played well this season and with a recent victory at the Vaspar, just a few weeks ago, where he held his nerve on another tough course, I am hopeful this occasion won’t faze him and he can put on a good show.” – ParUp Golf’s resident tipster ‘Big Dal’ on why he can win.
