New Release: Matchplay, New Side Games, Animals & More

More ways to play, compete and have fun with your group!

It’s only been a couple of weeks since our last update, but we’re already back with another release packed with new features and enhancements.

The new Animals game has arrived, bringing a fun new dynamic to your group events. You can now add individual or pairs Matchplay to friendly rounds, and we’ve added Nearest in 2, Nearest in 3 and Twos to our growing list of side games. There is also no longer any limit on how many holes you can play per game.

We’ve made scoring quicker, added a new prizes section when creating an event and introduced Event Highlights summary cards as a fun way to celebrate the winners and shame the losers from your group events!

Many of these updates have come directly from user feedback, so thank you to everyone who continues to share ideas and suggestions. We ultimately want to build the product you want, so keep sharing your requests and help shape the future of ParUp Golf.

Here’s a closer look at what’s new…

Matchplay

The perfect way to add a bit of competition to your friendly rounds!

Sometimes you just want to keep things simple. When you’re out with a mate, Matchplay means you don’t have to worry about every single shot and that annoying missed putt from 2 feet. Win the hole, go one up. Lose the hole and they’re right back in it. Simple, social and plenty of bragging rights on the line, just the way we like it!

You can now add Matchplay when playing a friendly round. The set-up process hasn’t changed: choose between Strokeplay or Stableford as usual, then simply add individual or pairs Matchplay to your round.

The best bit? You don’t have to choose one or the other. You can enjoy the simplicity of Matchplay while still tracking your individual Strokeplay or Stableford scorecard and leaderboard in the background. We’ve simply added a new Matchplay tab to the leaderboard, so you can easily switch between them as you play.

New Side Games

Opportunities to win more… or lose more!

Why settle for one competition when you can have a few running at the same time (or even every hole)? Side games give everyone something extra to play for and more importantly, a few more chances to take something off your mates, whether you’re playing for a cash pot or physical prize.

We’ve added three new side games: Nearest in 2, Nearest in 3 and Twos. We’ve also removed the limit on how many holes you can select for each side game, giving you complete flexibility over how you set them up.

Nearest in 2 and Nearest in 3 probably don’t need much explanation, but if you’re not familiar with Twos, the aim is simple: get a gross score of 2 on any hole to win a physical prize or a share of the cash prize pool. Probably stating the obvious, but the fewer Twos scored in the group event, the more you win. And if you make more than one, you’ll earn a prize or share for each.

Based on your feedback, we’ve also made a few improvements to side games. It’s now easier to skip when there’s nobody to select, side game hole notifications are clearer and player selection comes after score entry so it doesn’t block access to the leaderboard.

Animals

Four Animals and four ways to land yourself a forfeit!

We’re always looking for new ways to add a bit more fun to your golf events and the Animals game might be our favourite yet. Four Animals, four ways to get yourself in trouble on the golf course and rack up some debts or forfeits!

Animals can now be added to your group events, with each playing group getting their own Snake, Camel, Gorilla and Frog. Each has its own trigger (e.g. 3-putt and you’ll pick up the Snake!) and the Animal stays with you until another player takes it off your hands. Whoever is left holding each Animal at the end faces the forfeit set by the group.

There’s a little more to this one, so check out our more in-depth post on the new Animals game here.

Event Highlights

Celebrate the winners. Shame the losers!

The scores are in, but it’s far from over. They’re usually just the fuel for the group chat to light up for the rest of the day! Every golf event throws up a few performances that deserve some extra attention, and it’s not just the good ones worth remembering. Event Highlights celebrate the winners, but more importantly, give you plenty of ammunition for anyone who had a day to forget.

Once your event is complete, a series of Event Highlights summary cards are automatically created based on what happened on the day. From the winners and side games to the Wooden Spoon, Bandits, Animals, blobs and more, you can swipe through the cards and share your favourites straight from the app to the likes of WhatsApp or your social channels.

The cards can be found in your completed event, so you can head back and relive the highlights (and lowlights!) whenever you like.

Faster Scoring

Scoring shouldn’t slow down your round!

Nobody wants to spend more time than necessary entering scores on the golf course, especially now as we are approaching the colder winter months (for those of you also in the UK anyway!). You told us there were too many taps involved, so we’ve removed one for you!

Once you’ve entered the scores for each player, there’s no longer any need to hit a separate submit button. You’ll still land on the markers summary screen, where you can check the scores and leaderboard, but from there you can simply edit if you spot a mistake or move straight onto the next hole. Sounds minor, but it should make the scoring experience noticeably smoother for you.

Prizes

Something worth playing for!

Everyone tries that extra bit harder when there’s something on the line and something to play for! Whether it’s cash, a trophy, a sleeve of balls or something a little less conventional, you can now make sure everyone knows exactly what’s up for grabs.

We’ve added a new Prizes section when creating your event, allowing organisers to add prizes for anything they like, from the individual or team winner to something completely unique to your event. You can also assign specific prizes to any side games you’ve added, choosing between a physical prize of your choice or a cash pot with a set contribution per player.
